Vivian S. Rubado, 86, of DeKalb Junction, died, June 2, 2012, at Canton Potsdam Hospital. A graveside service will be, Tuesday, June 5th, 11:00 at the Hermon Cemetery, Hermon, New York, Pastor Robert Clark officiating. Vivian is survived by her son Holland “Hollie” and wife Julie Rubado, Hermon, sisters, Venita Crary and Vena Hubbard of North Carolina, grandchildren, Anthony and Denise Stedman Rubado, Germany, Eric Lashua, Hermon, great grandson Zech Fuller, Hermon, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son Harold Rubado, a sister Violet Carpenter and a granddaughter Melissa “Missy” Jandreau. She was born on January 4, 1926 in Fine, the daughter of Holland and Hazel Kerr Hubbard. Vivian married John Rubado in1948; he died in December, 1994. She was a self employed live in aide. She was a member of the DeKalb Hermon Senior Citizen Club, and Church Of The Good Shepherd. Vivian loved doing crossword puzzles, knitting, crocheting and going to church. Donald G. Alguire, 84, of DeKalb Junction, died, May 5, 2012, at the Canton Potsdam Hospital. Calling hours will be Tuesday, May 8th, 1 – 3 and 5 -7 PM at the funeral home. The funeral service will be May 9th, 1:00 PM, at the United Church of Richville, Pastor Karen Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Richville. Donald is survived by his wife, Barbara E., sons, William D. Alguire, DeKalb Junction, Brent J. (Erin) Alguire, Canton, a daughter Sherry J. (John) Burke of Harrisville, a brother, Kenneth (Lois) Alguire, DeKalb Junction, grandchildren, Emily (Derek) LaPoint, Russell, Ryan Hamilton (fiancé Ellie Zieser), Chatfield, MN, great granddaughter, Peyton LaPoint, Russell, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Harold, Maurice, Clarence and Lyle Alguire, sisters, Hazel LaRue, Helen Conger, Joyce Weaver and Mary Lou Alguire. He was born April 16, 1928 in the Town of DeKalb, the son of Harry and Annabelle Thompson Alguire. He married Barbara E. Jennings, October 26, 1947 at the Jennings family home with the Reverend E.J.W. Burston officiating. He and his wife bought the Jennings Family Farm which they farmed until he retired and then he was a custodian at Hermon DeKalb Central School. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren and playing with his great granddaughter. He was a good person and loved being outdoors. Contributions can be made to the United Church of Richville and the DeKalb Junction Volunteer Fire Department.

Ashley and companion David Cole, Gouverneur, a son, Robert H. and wife, Laurie Tamblin Jr., Kent, Washington, a brother, Nelson Macrie, Trenton, NJ. , a sister, Eileen Newell, Mosheim, TN, grandchildren, Angela Tamblin, Justin and his wife Sally Tamblin, Christina and husband Tim Smith, Matthew and his wife Lindsay Gibson, Dustin Gibson and fiancée Tama Moore, great grandchildren, Seth M. Gibson, Liam N. Gibson, Elsie R. Gibson, Ayva L. Gibson, Alyssa L. Smith, Andrew N. Smith, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Macrie, and sisters, Pauline Ketts, and Doris Lenord. She was born February 22, 1924 in Hammonton, New Jersey, the daughter of Dominick and Grace Parker Macrie. Stella married Robert H. Tamblin on November 11, 1949 in Great Bend, New York; he died on October 25, 2003. She was a cook for St. Lawrence University from January 1969 – August 1986 when she retired. Stella was a member of the Gouverneur, DeKalb Hermon, Edwards, and Canton Senior Citizens Clubs, the United Church of Richville; she was the historian and a past president of the Richville Historical Association, a 32 year member of the Richville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, and on the Richville Library Board. She loved to travel, play bingo, attend dinners, eat out, she was an avid reader, and was known for her apple cake and other desserts. Cunningham, Jacksonville, NC, Roxanne Cunningham, Black River, Vaughn and Craig Kerr, Gouverneur, Desiree’ Wilmarth, Alexandria Bay, Benjamin Beebe, Hammond, Alice Beebe, Hammond, Jessica and Paul Pagan, Hammond, great grandchildren, Anthony Allen, Marissa Lynn Kerr, Alexis Nichole Kerr and Marri Jane Merrihew. Donald was born February 22, 1937, in Gouverneur, the son of Harold and Vaughn A. Johnson Garvey. He was in the Army from 1954 – 1962 and earned the National Defense Service Medal. He married Margaret Beebe on October 19, 1997 in DeKalb Junction, Justice of Peace, Mary Cook officiating. Donald was a member of AMVETS Post 11, DeKalb Junction. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren, fishing, watching television, and listening to country music.

Missy was born March 8, 1976, in Potsdam, the daughter of Gerald Jandreau and Julie Bessette Rubado.   She graduated from Hermon DeKalb Central School in 1994.   She loved to do arts and crafts and sew. Henry Murray Miller., 90, of Richville, died, April 1, 2012, at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center. Calling hours will be Tuesday, April 3rd , 2 -4 and 6 -8 PM, with a Mason service at 6:30 PM. The funeral service will be Wednesday, April 4th, 2:30 PM, at the funeral home, Reverend William Hart officiating. Murray is survived by his companion, Ethel Newcombe, a sister, Mary Jane Miller, Potsdam, four nieces and four nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Merrill Miller, and a sister June Miller. He was born August 13, 1921 at his home, in Richville, where he lived his whole life, the son of Robert and Pauline Millar Miller. He was a WWII Army Veteran having earned the American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Medal and the Victory Medal. He was the highway superintendent for the Town of DeKalb, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the FA & M #633 Richville, he enjoyed tinkering, fishing, going to the diner for coffee, and going to auctions. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Gouverneur Volunteer Rescue Squad or the Richville Volunteer Fire Department.

Nicholas Gardinier, 65, died on March 13th, at his home in Old DeKalb after a year long battle with esophageal cancer.

Nick was born in Mt.Kisco, NY to W.Ivan and Ethel K. Gardinier. He graduated from Lockport High School in 1964 and SUNY School of Forestry, Syracuse in 1969. After a brief teaching career, Nick moved to St Lawrence County in 1972. He married Bonnie Tyner July 16, 1976 and moved to their present home of 35 years in Dekalb. Nick worked as a general contractor who restored and built houses and buildings all over St. Lawrence County. Nick was known and respected by his friends and neighbors as a person of great integrity, deep generosity and committed civic participations. As a boy, Nick loved spending summers at the Gardinier family farm in Deposit, NY, fishing the Delaware River and hunting. He carried this love of the outdoors and rural living throughout his life. He also had a passion for the sciences, and spent much of his time reading about astrophysics. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie, his daughter Audrey, his sister Phyllis Gardinier, of Ballston Spa, and Bonnie’s family in Indiana.

Because of his wish to have his remains given for anatomical research, there will be no calling hours, or funeral service. The family and friends of Nick will celebrate his life in a memorial service at a yet to be determined date. He will be buried in the Old DeKalb Cemetery. Jim is survived by his son, James E. Brice Jr. (Debra), DeKalb Junction, Marsha (Floyd) Koerner, of Barker, Carol (Michael) Fenlong, Helen Woods, and Cynthia Morrow, all of DeKalb Junction, Jane (Michael) Costello, Richmond, VA, Emily (Thomas) Grant, Lisbon, Jeanette (Thomas) Brock, Jordan, Marilyn (Michael) Peabody, Hermon, 24 grandchildren, several great and step grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Eugene, and Andrew Brice, a sister Harriet Shimpeno . Jim was born November 12, 1918 in his family home on the Brice Road, until he moved to his current home in 1982, the son of William and Sarah Rowland Brice. He graduated from DeKalb Junction High School and the Hemphill Diesel Engineering School in NYC. He married Elizabeth (Betty) Rice on October 12, 1941, at the Norfolk Methodist Parsonage by Reverend Frank Brown, she died on August 10, 2004. He was a self employed dairy farmer until his retirement in 1982, he was also the Town of DeKalb Supervisor and Tax Assessor. He was a member of the Old DeKalb Methodist Church, Old DeKalb Grange, DeKalb Hermon Senior Citizen Club, Richville Masonic Lodge for 70 years, NYS Farm Bureau, a former member of the Hermon DeKalb Central School Board of Education. He was a laborer for Laborers Local 322 in Massena. He married Peggy Brown on July 16, 1988 in Canton. Bim loved to hunt, fish, cook, garden, bowl, go camping, play cards, be outdoors, farming, playing softball and Karaoke. Sylvia is survived by her husband James, sons, Joseph (Jodie) Spadaccini, Canton, Tomme (Michelle) Spadaccini, Vernon, CT, brothers, Schuyler (Karen) Bush, Sterling (Dawn) Bush, Stewart (Doreen) Bush, all of Florida, grand children, Anthony, Shawn, Jason and Matthew Spadaccini, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased a sister, Sharon Robinson. Sylvia was born November 28, 1940 in Gouverneur, the daughter of Merrill and Lida M. Weaver Bush. She graduated from Hermon DeKalb Central School in 1958 and the Watertown Business School. She married James C. Spadaccini on May 14, 1960 at St. Henry’s Church, DeKalb Junction. She was a billing clerk at E.J. Noble Hospital, Gouverneur. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Richville, and enjoyed going for rides, and listening to country western music.
