JEAN M. “MAC” EVANS
Jean M. Evans, 91, of Gouverneur, died July 20, 2011, at Kinney Nursing Home, Allen-Denesha Funeral Home, DeKalb Junction, in care of arrangements.
Calling hours will be Saturday, July 23, 11:00 am – 1:30 PM, the funeral service will follow, at the funeral home, Reverend William Hart and Reverend James Warrington officiating, followed by the burial in Old DeKalb Cemetery, Old DeKalb.
Jean is survived by his son, Robert M. Evans, Gouverneur, daughters, Bonnie J. Knowlton, DeKalb Junction, Trudy M. (Peter) Meyn of Williamson, NY and Zephyr Hills, FL, Dixie ( Murray) Scott, Canton, Joadie (Jimmy) Goodison, Rochester, a sister, Susan Elizabeth Mashaw, Gouverneur, 16 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased a brother Robert Evans, and grandchildren, Karen and Kathy Meyn.
He was born in Sennett, New York, the son of Jean Paul and Susan Grant MacDougall Evans on April 5, 1920. He married Eva M. Mashaw, November 12, 1939 in Philadelphia, NY, she died on January 26, 2008. He was in the U. S. Army, there he earned the European – African – Middle Eastern Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Jean was a maintenance supervisor at Kodak in Rochester for 12 years, he retired in 1982, previous to that he owned and operated a garbage pickup service, known as Mac Evans Trucking in Gouverneur from 1945- 1970.
Jean was a member of the Silas Wainwright American Legion Post in Gouverneur, the VFW in Gouverneur, and the DeKalb Junction United Methodist Church. He loved gardening (flowers and vegetables), wood working, music, making puzzles, bowling, softball, sports, camping, and his bible study was extremely important to him.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the DeKalb Junction United Methodist Church, Macomb Community Wesleyan Church or Kinney Nursing Home.
