Robert D. Yates, 94, of Potsdam, died on February 28, 2020, at Canton Potsdam Hospital.  There will be no services at this time as Robert is a generous donation to science.  He is survived by his son, David and his wife Cathy Yates of Schuylerville, a daughter, Lyda Yates of Missouri, step children, Gary and his wife Carol Palmer of Parishville, Sherry Palmer and her husband Rick Gary of Parishville, Lana and her husband Vernon Hobbs of Mercedes, Texas, Laurie and her husband Marcel Poirier of Cortland, 8 grandchildren, 9 step grandchildren, several great grandchildren, his extended family, Tammy, Keala and Ethan.  He was predeceased by his daughters, Linda Yates and Rita Lavaway, a brother, Eugene Yates and a sister Deldee Yates.  Robert was born on August 17, 1925, in Hallsville, MO, to the late, James and Lillian Fuhr Yates, he was in the Army from 1945 till 1948 earning the World War II Victory Medal. He married Ruth Wilson on September 29, 1985 at St. Michael’s Church Parsonage, she died on January 16, 2015, a previous marriage ended in divorce. Robert worked as a produce manager at A & P in Watertown. He was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Potsdam.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Potsdam Humane Society.

Irving H. Baxter, 61, of Potsdam, died on February 19, 2020, at his home.  There will be no services as Irving is a generous donation to science.  He is survived by his wife, Lorie Baxter, sons Brian Baxter and his significant other, Ashley of Norfolk, Jason and his wife Heather Baxter of Chase Mills, Michael and his wife Kari Baxter of Altoona, Andrew and his wife Alyssa Baxter of Canton, Alex Baxter and his significant other Andrea of Parish, and seven grandchildren.   Irving was born on April 8, 1958, in Massena, to the late, Irving H. and Jean Seabring Baxter, he graduated from Potsdam High School in 1976. He married Lorie Nielson on October 5, 2018, in Potsdam. Irving enjoyed, wood working, fabrication, hunting, fishing, reading, and gardening.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley .

Douglas E. Bates 02/13/2020

Douglas E. Bates, 46, of Ogdensburg, died on February 13, 2020, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse.  There will be a Celebration Of Life on February 21, 2020, 4 -7 PM at the DeKalb Junction Fire Department.  He is survived by his son Sean Bates of Rensselaerville, his parents, Michael and Lee Anne Ross of Hermon, a brother, Wesley Bates and fiancé Sue, of Rensselaerville, a nephew Noah Bates, several aunts and an uncle.   Doug was born on August 1, 1973 in Potsdam, he graduated from Canton Central School in 1991.  Douglas loved spending time with his family, skiing, wood working, hunting and fishing.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to United Helpers Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities.

Robert L. Kio, 66, of Hermon, died on February 2, 2020, at Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse.  There will be calling hours February 8, 2020, 11 am – 1 PM, a funeral service will follow at 1 P.M., Reverend Thomas Nichols officiating.  Burial will be in the Hermon Cemetery.  He is survived by his partner of 20 years, Cheryl (Locy) Walrath, his parents, Levi C. and Ella M. (Carr) Kio of Morristown, Michael J. and Sabrina Kio of Fort Ann, stepson, William Walrath of Hermon, stepdaughter, Krysta and Keith Davis of Lisbon, his brother, Alan and Mary Kio of Baldwinsville, grandchildren, Alyson Kio, Brianna Haven, Edwin J. Ramos “E.J.”, Angelina Kio, Michael Levi Kio, step grandchildren, Carlie and Ryanna Davis, great granddaughter, Braylynn Hill, a nephew Alan James Kio.  Robert was born on December 8, 1953 in Gouverneur. He graduated from Hermon DeKalb  Central School in 1970 and Canton ATC in 1998 with an A.S. degree in business management.  Robert was a bus driver for NYSARC, Canton..  He enjoyed fishing, playing the lottery, bingo, video games, reading and history.   In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made his family.

Lawrence J. Jones, 76, of DeKalb Junction, died on January 22, 2020, at his home.  There will be calling hours February 5, 2020, 12 – 2 PM, a memorial service will follow at 2 P.M., Pastor Martha Helmer officiating.  There will be a gathering after the service at the DeKalb Junction Fire Hall.  Burial will be in the spring at Hermon Cemetery.  He is survived by his son Fredrick H.L. Jones of Oswego, step children, Kevin Brown of DeKalb Junction, Danny Brown of Harrisville, David and his wife Barbara Brown Jr. of Hermon, Debbie Weller of Richville, Lisa Brown of DeKalb Junction, a sister in law Gena Jones of Ellenton, Florida, a grandson, 16 step grandchildren, 32 step great grandchildren, several step great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a step daughter, Karen Carr, siblings, Malcolm Jones, William Jones, Tom Jones, Betty Livingston, Karol Foster, and a step granddaughter, Amy Lou Carr.  Larry was born on August 5, 1943 in the town of Hermon, New York, the son of the late, Fred and Arlene Priest Jones.  A marriage to Patricia Meade ended in divorce, he then married Shirley Aldridge Brown on May 27, 2000 at the DeKalb Junction United Methodist Church, she died on August 5, 2016. Larry was a custodian at Hermon DeKalb Central School for 27 years prior to his retirement.  He enjoyed puttering around his home, and going to his camp.   In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Michael L. McRobbie, 56, of Hermon, died on December 22, 2019, at Canton Potsdam Hospital.  There will be a Celebration of Life at AM VETS Post 11, DeKalb Junction at 2 PM, January 3, 2020.  He is survived by his wife, Denise McRobbie, children from a previous marriage, John Wilson and his wife Emily of DeKalb, Michael McRobbie of Albany, Corey Burwell of Ogdensburg, Leslie Whitton of  Hermon, Kimberly McRobbie and Randy of Gouverneur, Whitney McRobbie of Potsdam, his wife’s children Erin Tiernan of Canton, Morgan Tiernan and Jeff of Richville, Alicia Trudell and her husband Frank of Hermon, brothers, Donald McRobbie and his wife Cheryl of Waterloo, David McRobbie of DeKalb,, sisters, Cathy Hendrick and her husband Gerald of Brockport, Cherie Zira and her husband Dan of Hermon, Caryn Chilas and her husband Michael of Rochester, 26 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.  Mike was born on September 10, 1963 in Gouverneur, New York, the son of the late, Lowell and Isla Jean Nichol McRobbie.  He graduated from the Hermon DeKalb Central School, and then attended SUNY Canton.  Mike was a mechanic at M R Bell in Canton and at Kerr Trucking, DeKalb Junction.  Mike loved and adored his family, he was very generous and would do anything for anyone.  He enjoyed tinkering with mechanical devices, barbeques, and hunting.  OOGA, OOGA till we meet again! Viola J. Noble, 93 of DeKalb, died on November 27, 2019, at her home, Allen-Denesha Funeral Home, DeKalb Junction, has been entrusted with arrangements.  There will be no services as Viola requested. She is survived by, siblings, Weldon and his wife Roxanne Noble, DeKalb, Neil Noble, DeKalb, Merle and his wife Dancy Noble of DeKalb, Keith “Popeye” Noble, of Canton, Janice Sibbitts of Canton, several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by siblings, Morley, Harold and Glenn Noble, Lucy Murdie and Loreen Noble.  Viola was born on February 7, 1926 in the Town of Canton, New York, the daughter of the late, Loys and Jessie Colbertson Noble.  Viola cleaned homes for a living.  She loved taking care of her family and her home.  She enjoyed going for rides in the car. Jessie K. Wainwright, 102, Ellenton, Florida, formerly of Rensselaer Falls, died on November 27, 2019, at her daughter’s home.  In the spring there will be a graveside service in the Rensselaer Falls Cemetery. She is survived by, her daughter Linda Liscum and Antonio Tozzi of Ellenton, Florida, grandchildren, Brandi and her husband Robert Reichenbach of Hampton, Virginia, Evan and his wife Reanda Liscum of Tupper Lake, New York, great grandchildren, Jessie and Haley Reichenbach, Marah and Kelsey Liscum, and step great granddaughter Jenna Leonard.  Jessie was born on August 11, 1917 in Lisbon, New York, the daughter of the late, Howard and Julia McMartin Miller. She married Herbert Wainwright on November 12, 1943, he died on May 28, 2006. She graduated from Alexandria Bay High School, and graduated from Potsdam Normal in 1939, with a teaching degree.  Her career began by teaching in the country schools and ended with her teaching grades K, 1st and 2nd, at Canton Central School, until her retirement in 1972.  Jessie was a past member of the United Methodist Church in Rensselaer Falls, the New York State Retired Teachers, the Local Retired Teachers Association, the Rensselaer Falls Historical Association, and the Rensselaer Falls Library Association.  Jessie loved to spend time with her daughter and grandchildren.  She enjoyed reading, gardening, and being around animals. Janet J. Flight, 82, of DeKalb, died on November 22, 2019, at United Helpers Nursing Home, Canton.  Calling hours will be November 25, 12 – 2 PM. The funeral service will follow at 2 PM, at the funeral home, Pastor Martha Helmer officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery. She is survived by, her brothers, Lawrence and his wife Patricia Flight of DeKalb, David and his wife Wendy Corbine Flight, Ogdensburg, nieces and nephews, Diane and her husband Larry Hazelton of Heuvelton, Donna and her husband Frank Anson of DeKalb,  Carol and her husband Malcolm Hubbard of DeKalb, Cathy and her husband Robert Reed of Maryland, Mark Flight and his companion, Shannon Klementz of Wisconsin,  Steven and his wife Pam Fischer of Washington , 9 great nieces and nephews, 17 great nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by a sister, Virginia Fischer. Janet was born on April 14, 1937 in Macombe, New York, the daughter of the late, Ray and Catherine Pray Flight.  She graduated in 1955 from the Hermon DeKalb Central School, in 1956 she graduated from the Watertown School of Commerce.  Her career at Saint Lawrence University began on June 14, 1957 and ended with her retirement on June 30, 1999.  She was the assistant registrar in 1973 till 1981 when she became the registrar.  Janet was a member of the DeKalb Junction United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the DeKalb Hermon, Canton and Colton Senior Citizen’s Clubs, The Red Hat Society, and the DeKalb Historical Association.  She received the Laity of the Year Award in May 2004, and the Special Mission Recognition in March of 2019. Janet loved to travel, knit, exercise three days a week at St. Lawrence University, and read. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the SPCA, Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley, or the DeKalb Junction United Methodist Church.

Ruth Ann Copeland 11/14/2019


 
Ruth Ann Copeland, 79, died Thursday, November 14, 2019 at the Riverledge Health Care & Rehabilitation Center in Ogdensburg, NY.  She was born on May 3, 1939 in Watertown, New York to the late Harley & Evelyn Lehr Watson. She graduated from Watertown High School.  She later attended Nursing School in the Watertown.
She was a Licensed Practical Nurse at the United Helpers in Canton.  She is predeceased by her husband, Elgin Copland. She is survived by a sister, Margaret Sweet, Black River, NY and several nieces and nephews. She is also predeceased by 3 sisters and 3 brothers.
A private graveside service will be held in the South Edwards Cemetery on Saturday, November 23, 2019. A Memorial Service will be held on her Birthday in May.
