John E. Davis, 86, of Hermon, died on May 27, 2021, at his home. There will be no services.  John is survived by his wife Elaine, a brother James Davis and a sister Esther Jennings. He was predeceased by his brother, Morris Davis, and a sister Doris Davis. He was born on January 26, 1935 in Pierrepont, to the late Erwin and Francis LaLonde Davis.  John was in the Army from 1957 – 1959 when he was honorably discharged.  He married Beulah Enslow on October 12, 1959, she died on December 18, 2014, and he then married Elaine Gollinger on April 15, 2017. He worked as a construction worker in Niagara Falls and then as a truck driver.  He was a member of the DeKalb Hermon Senior Citizen Club, a member and past chief of the Hermon Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Gouverneur Elks Club, Teamsters Union in Massena, Carr Pond Hunting Club, and a past member of AMVETS Post 11.  He enjoyed going to Woody’s for coffee in the morning, hunting, watching Westerns, and was a Boston Red Socks Fan. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Hermon Volunteer Fire Department.

James C. Spadaccini

James C. Spadaccini, 86, of DeKalb Junction, died on January 7, 2021, at United Helpers Maplewood.  There will be a graveside service May 14 2021, 10 am,at the Union Cemetery, DeKalb Junction, Father Bryon Stitt officiating.  Jim is survived by his sons, Joseph and his wife Jodie Spadaccini of DeKalb Junction, Tomme and his wife Michelle Spadaccini of Vernon, CT, sister in laws, Frieda Spadaccini of Canton and Gloria Spadaccini of Russell, grandchildren, Anthony Spadaccini and companion Brie Gleason of South Glen Falls, Shawn Spadaccini and his companion Emily Pinckney of Canton, Jason Spadaccini and Matthew Spadaccini of Vernon, CT, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased his siblings, Phillip Spadaccini, Michael Spadaccini, Nicholas Spadaccini and Mary Dawson. He was born on February 19, 1934 in the Town of DeKalb, to the late, Antonio and Anna Autunna Spadaccini. Jim graduated from the DeKalb High School in 1952 and married Sylvia “Sue” Bush on May 14, 1960 at St. Henry’s Church, DeKalb Junction, she predeceased him on January 17, 2012.  He worked as a custodian at the Hermon School and then the Hermon Dekalb Central School until his retirement in 1999.  While he was working at the school he also worked as a cheesemaker at Kraft in Canton.  He made many friends while he worked at Hermon DeKalb Central School. He was a parishioner of St. Henry’s Church and St. Mary’s Church, a member of the DeKalb Hermon and Senior Citizen Club. He was a Yankee and University of Connecticut girls’ basketball fan. He enjoyed gardening and trains.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Society of the United Helpers, 732 Ford Street, Ogdensburg, NY, 13669.

Jeffery L. Peters         

Jeffery L. Peters, 53, of DeKalb Junction, died on June 11, 2020.  There will be private services for his family due to COVID 19. He is survived by his wife, Lisa, sons, Adam Peters of DeKalb, Jon Peters of Canton, his father Joseph Peters, DeKalb, his brothers, Michael Peters of Canton, Steven and his wife Karen Peters of Denver, CO, several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother in 2017, Donna Powell Peters.  Jeff was born on July 6, 1966, in El Paso, Texas. He graduated from Hermon DeKalb Central School in 1984. He married Lisa Struzzi on August 30, 1986 at St. Henry’s Church in DeKalb Junction. Jeffery worked at St. Lawrence University on the custodial crew since 1986. Jeff spent many hours in the driveway working with Jon on his basketball skills and spent hours with Adam sharing their love of hunting.  He was thrilled that his boys shared the same interests as him and that he could pass on his knowledge to them.  He loved his boys and was so proud of the men they have become.   He never missed an opportunity to tell them “be careful” and “I love you” every time they walked out the door. Jeff enjoyed being in the woods and was an avid hunter.  He loved to scout deer during the summer months, and would work on honing his skills as the season approached.  Bow hunting was his favorite as he loved sitting in his tree stands within the quiet of the woods and watch all of the other wildlife around him.  He was always a successful deer hunter and in 2019, was thrilled beyond words that he was able to fill his bear tag.  Jeff was also well known as “the bird man”.   From a very young age you could always find him raising water fowl and chickens.  As a child, he took great pride in entering his chickens into the poultry contest at the Gouverneur fair and bringing home blue ribbons.  Years later, his boys followed in his footsteps making Jeff very proud.  Jeff was never without some type of feathered friend in his life and was sought out by people who had found an injured bird and brought it to him to rehabilitate.   He was a member of the St. Lawrence County Poultry Fanciers.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge and Rehab Center, 977 Springfield Road, Wilmington, New York, 12997.

Jessie K. Wainwright

Jessie K. Wainwright, 102, Ellenton, Florida, formerly of Rensselaer Falls, died on November 27, 2019, at her daughter’s home.  In the spring there will be a graveside service in the Rensselaer Falls Cemetery. She is survived by, her daughter Linda Liscum and Antonio Tozzi of Ellenton, Florida, grandchildren, Brandi and her husband Robert Reichenbach of Hampton, Virginia, Evan and his wife Reanda Liscum of Tupper Lake, New York, great grandchildren, Jessie and Haley Reichenbach, Marah and Kelsey Liscum, and step great granddaughter Jenna Leonard.  Jessie was born on August 11, 1917 in Lisbon, New York, the daughter of the late, Howard and Julia McMartin Miller. She married Herbert Wainwright on November 12, 1943, he died on May 28, 2006. She graduated from Alexandria Bay High School, and graduated from Potsdam Normal in 1939, with a teaching degree.  Her career began by teaching in the country schools and ended with her teaching grades K, 1st and 2^nd, at Canton Central School, until her retirement in 1972.  Jessie was a past member of the United Methodist Church in Rensselaer Falls, the New York State Retired Teachers, the Local Retired Teachers Association, the Rensselaer Falls Historical Association, and the Rensselaer Falls Library Association.  Jessie loved to spend time with her daughter and grandchildren.  She enjoyed reading, gardening, and being around animals. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Rensselaer Falls Cemetery Association or the Rensselaer Falls Volunteer Fire Department.

Janet J. Flight

Janet J. Flight, 82, of DeKalb, died on November 22, 2019, at United Helpers Nursing Home, Canton.  Calling hours will be November 25, 12 – 2 PM. The funeral service will follow at 2 PM, at the funeral home, Pastor Martha Helmer officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery. She is survived by, her brothers, Lawrence and his wife Patricia Flight of DeKalb, David and his wife Wendy Corbine Flight, Ogdensburg, nieces and nephews, Diane and her husband Larry Hazelton of Heuvelton, Donna and her husband Frank Anson of DeKalb,  Carol and her husband Malcolm Hubbard of DeKalb, Cathy and her husband Robert Reed of Maryland, Mark Flight and his companion, Shannon Klementz of Wisconsin,  Steven and his wife Pam Fischer of Washington , 9 great nieces and nephews, 17 great nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by a sister, Virginia Fischer. Janet was born on April 14, 1937 in Macombe, New York, the daughter of the late, Ray and Catherine Pray Flight.  She graduated in 1955 from the Hermon DeKalb Central School, in 1956 she graduated from the Watertown School of Commerce.  Her career at Saint Lawrence University began on June 14, 1957 and ended with her retirement on June 30, 1999.  She was the assistant registrar in 1973 till 1981 when she became the registrar.  Janet was a member of the DeKalb Junction United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the DeKalb Hermon, Canton and Colton Senior Citizen’s Clubs, The Red Hat Society, and the DeKalb Historical Association.  She received the Laity of the Year Award in May 2004, and the Special Mission Recognition in March of 2019. Janet loved to travel, knit, exercise three days a week at St. Lawrence University, and read. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the SPCA, Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley, or the DeKalb Junction United Methodist Church.

Joan E. Kampnich
Joan E. Kampnich, 78, of Boonville, died on October 20, 2018, at the Sunset Nursing Home in Boonville. Burial will be Friday, November 2, 2018, 3 PM, at the Hermon Cemetery, a celebration of life will follow at the Lone Wolf Saloon in Hermon. Joan is survived by her son, Daniel and his wife Tracy Wadsworth of Holland Patent, grandchildren, Casey Tyndall of Holland Patent, Kayla Tersip Wadsworth of Remsen, step grandchildren, Chloe and Calli Becker of Holland Patent, special nieces, Yvonne Stewart of Pyrites, Cherie Frisco Williams of North Carolina, Cynthia Kampnich Buell of Lowville, a special friend, Nancy Kampnich, several nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins. She was predeceased by her son, Lonnie Frisco, brothers, Gary Frisco, Ronald Frisco and Harold Frisco. Joan was born on November 27, 1939, in Ogdensburg, to the late William Ernest and Audrey Peters Frisco, she graduated from DeKalb High School in 1957. Marriages to Daniel Wadsworth Sr. and Bernard Kampnich ended in divorce. She was employed by the US Postal Service as a clerical worker in Syracuse, owned and operated Kam-Bern’s Diner in Remsen, then owned Joan’s Village Inn in Remsen. She moved to Croghan in 1985 and worked as a medical clerk at Fort Drum, until she retired in 2001. In 2001 she became the librarian of the Croghan Free Library. She was a parishioner at St. Stephens Church in Croghan. She loved Yankees baseball, traveling, country music, reading and spending time with her grandchildren. Joan I. Burwell
Joan I. Burwell, 78, of DeKalb Junction, died on October 4, 2018, at her home. There will be calling hours on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, 10 am – 12 PM, the funeral service will follow. Joan is survived by her daughters, Marsha Burwell of Oregon, Virginia and her husband Kevin Murray, of Lisbon, Dawn and her husband Chris Meuten of Ogdensburg, Brenda and her husband Michael Hollars of North Carolina, Deborah Middlemiss of Maryland, Jessie Burwell and her companion Brent Brenno of Ogdensburg, a sister, Cheryl Longfellow of California, 18 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Rica Parras, Theresa Brown and a grandson James Burwell. Joan was born on June 11, 1940, in Potsdam, the daughter of Earl and Virginia Rheome Puirre. A marriage to James R. Burwell ended in divorce. She worked as a self-employed housekeeper. Joan was a member of the Hermon DeKalb Senior Citizen Club, a past member of the St. John’s Episcopal Church in Canton. She enjoyed, dancing, traveling, reading, and going to AM VETS Post 11. Jackson John David McLaughlin

Jackson John David McLaughlin, became an angel on September 17, 2018. He is survived his parents Sherry (Newcombe) and John David McLaughlin of DeKalb, his brother Jacob Newcombe, maternal grandparents, Sheila and Scott Newcombe of DeKalb, paternal grandmother, Cindy Gordon Sr. and partner Richard Cherry of Edwards, great grandparents, Virginia Bullis of DeKalb, Howie and Marion Newcombe of DeKalb, uncles, Scott Newcombe Jr and fiancé Joshua Rose of Plattsburgh, Sean and Christy Newcombe of DeKalb, James Belonge of Hermon, Terry Gordon III and partner Kerry Ashley of Gouverneur, Jason and Katie Gordon of Edwards, Wallace and Daniel McLaughlin of Russell, aunts, Tina Wood of St. Regis Falls, Cindy Gordon Jr. and longtime partner Robert J. Facey of Edwards, 18 cousins, several great aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandfather, Terry Gordon Sr. and great grandfather Wheaton Bullis.

John E. Newvine
John E. Newvine, 60, of Gouverneur, died on September 7, 2018, at Strong Memorial Hospital. There will be calling hours on Saturday, September 15, 2018, 2 – 5 PM at the funeral home. John is survived by his wife, Vicki Newvine, his father, James Newvine of Plattsburgh, a son, Michael Newvine of Heuvelton, a daughter Rachel Newvine and Eric Payment of Tupper Lake, a brother, James Newvine Jr. of DeKalb Junction, a sister Jane Miller Newvine of Ovid, a granddaughter, Adelyn Mae Wayering of Tupper Lake, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Joann Newvine in 2010. John was born on November 5, 1957, in Gouverneur, New York, the son of James and Joann Horton Newvine. He graduated from Hermon DeKalb Central School, on May 25, 1991 he married Vicki Alguire at the Christ Church of Love in Old DeKalb. He worked for United Helpers in Evans Mills as a maintenance man, prior to that he worked for Witherbee and Whalen in Canton for many years. He loved playing golf, bowling, and playing horseshoes. He played horseshoes in the Green Belt League. He was an avid Buffalo Bills fan. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made his wife Vicki Newvine.
