Viola C. Gilson

Viola C. Gilson, 92, of DeKalb Junction, died on February 20, 2023, at Canton Potsdam Hospital.  There will be calling hours at the funeral home, Wednesday, February 22, 2023, 11am – 1 PM. The funeral service will be at 1PM, Pastor Stephen Lambeth officiating, burial will follow in Old DeKalb Cemetery. Viola is survived by her son Gary and his wife Bonnie Gilson of Russell, daughters, Susazan Williams of Russell, and Carol and her husband Terry McKendree of DeKalb Junction, her brother Maynard and his wife Jean Finley of Ogdensburg, 18 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Robert Finley, Gerald Finley, Claude Finley, sisters, Doris Johnston, Eva McDonald, Ella Finley and Dorothy Finley. She was born on April 13, 1930, in the Town of Oswegatchie, the daughter of the late, Earl and Irene Durham Finley. Viola married Ralph F. Gilson on December 30,1949 at the Ogdensburg Pilgrim Holiness Church, the Reverend Bernard Barton officiating, he predeceased her on October 27, 2014.  She was a homemaker and foster mother to many. Viola was a member of the Pilgrim Holiness Church of Ogdensburg and Harrisville.  She loved being a homemaker, reading, baking, cooking and camping in her Winnebago.  Contributions can be made to the Pilgrim Holiness Church Harrisville at 14374 Maple Street, Harrisville, New York 13648.

Vickie M. Morse, 71, of Canton, died, February 14, 2022 at her home. Services for Vickie will be private. There will be a graveside service on May 22, 2024, 11:30 am at Cook’s Corner Cemetery, Pierrepont. Vickie is survived by her daughter, Kelly and her husband James Mandigo of Vermont, her son, Perry Masters of Ogdensburg, a brother William and his wife Candie Morse of Gouverneur, grandchildren, Tyran Mandigo, Christopher Laddison, Kyle Perry, Patrick Rockhill, Braiden Rockhill, adopted grandchildren, Noah Marckres and Gabrielle Marckres, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Elizabeth Morse, Sandra Hynes and her common law husband, Richard Sanford.  Vickie was born September 23, 1950, in Gouverneur to the late, Gerald and Mary Mattison Morse. Vickie worked as clerk at the General Store in DePeyster, and Ames. She helped manage her husband’s business, Sanford Inc. in Colton, for many years. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, watching mystery shows, online games, Facebook and watching Tic Toc.  The joy of her life was her grandson, Tyran. Virginia Ruth Alberta Woodward- Gamer, 82, formerly of DeKalb, died on October 25, 2021, at Kindered Hospital in Dover, New Jersey. Calling hours will be November 14, 2021, 2-3 PM, at the funeral home, due to COVID, masks and social distancing are required . A reception will follow at the DeKalb Junction Volunteer Fire Department. Virginia is survived by a son, Albert Edward Gamer, Hackettstown, NJ, daughters, Mildred and her husband Michael Smith of Canton, Suzan Gamer of DeKalb Junction and Naomi and her husband Robert Drake of DeKalb Junction, stepdaughters, Vickie Brice of Gouverneur, Betty Jo Peck of Gouverneur, Marjorie Hosmer and her partner Cindy Parker of Canastota, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by a stepson David Peck Jr, siblings, Charles Woodward and Jean Magnacca and her step father Nicholas Pavoloi. Virginia was born on May 19, 1939 in Springfield, Mass., to the late, Charles and Virginia Thurber Woodward.   She married Albert Edward Gamer on February 21, 1964 in Springfield, Mass., he predeceased her on January 13, 1974. Her lifelong companion Mort Peck predeceased her on March 8, 2017.  Virginia was a health aide for the Community Development Program in Canton, NY, until her retirement. When she was younger she picked tobacco in the Massachusetts tobacco fields. After her retirement she was a volunteer at Mercy Hospital in the laundry.  She was a member of the Women of The Moose Chapter 2352, American Legion 164 Auxiliary, the Highland Presbyterian Church, the DeKalb Junction Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary,  she was a Sunshine Volunteer.  Virginia loved any and all crafts, including, beading, quilting, embroidering and making her own Christmas cards.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Legion Post 164, Willow Grove Street, Hackettstown, NJ, 07840 or the DeKalb Junction Volunteer Fire Dept., 4323 USH 11, DeKalb Junction, NY 13630.

Viola J. Noble, 93 of DeKalb, died on November 27, 2019, at her home, Allen-Denesha Funeral Home, DeKalb Junction, has been entrusted with arrangements.  There will be no services as Viola requested. She is survived by, siblings, Weldon and his wife Roxanne Noble, DeKalb, Neil Noble, DeKalb, Merle and his wife Dancy Noble of DeKalb, Keith “Popeye” Noble, of Canton, Janice Sibbitts of Canton, several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by siblings, Morley, Harold and Glenn Noble, Lucy Murdie and Loreen Noble.  Viola was born on February 7, 1926 in the Town of Canton, New York, the daughter of the late, Loys and Jessie Colbertson Noble.  Viola cleaned homes for a living.  She loved taking care of her family and her home.  She enjoyed going for rides in the car. Virginia C. Wells, 91, of DeKalb Junction, died on September 15, 2019, at Canton Potsdam Hospital.  Services are private.  Virginia is survived by sons, James and his wife Donna Wells of Gouverneur, Donald Wells of Tombstone, Arizona, daughters, Grace Wells of Ogdensburg, Virginia and her husband Gary Watson of Gouverneur, grandchildren, Daniel Rodriguez, Granger Watson, George Ramsey Jr., Jason Ramsey, Tina and her husband Scott Walrath, Tonya and her husband Robert Collins, great grandchildren, Jessica Moore, Robert Collins II, Chelsea Walrath, Joshua Walrath, Jacob Walrath, Nathan Watson, Emma Ramsey, Lizzy Ramsey, great great grandchildren, Michael Moore, Cayden Moore, Tristan Moore, and  one nephew.  She was predeceased by her grandchildren, Kimberly Virginia Rodriguez, Lisa Marie Ramsey, a sister, Dorothea Davies and a daughter in law, Amity Wells. Virginia was born on June 6, 1928, in Ogdensburg, NY, the daughter of the late R. Everett and Grace Eddy Piercy.  She married Donald L. Wells on June 8, 1946 in Rensselaer Falls, he died in 1989.  She worked on her family farm in Kendrew, her whole life.  Virginia was a member of the DeKalb Hermon Senior Citizen Club and the Gouverneur and Canton Senior Citizen Clubs. Vincent Pratt, 54, of Ogdensburg, died on February 15, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Vincent was a generous donation to science. There will be a memorial service on Friday, February 23, 2018 at 2 PM, at the Fresh Start Fellowship Church (50 CR 14, Rensselear Falls), Pastor Reginald Curtis officiating. He is survived by his wife Cindy Pratt, sons, Michael Pratt of Ogdensburg, Justin and his wife Autumn Katura of Ogdensburg, James Middlemiss of Ogdensburg, a daughter Jennifer Austin of Ogdensburg, a brother, Richard Pratt of Morristown, sisters, Deborah and her husband Ed Stevenson of Lisbon, Jamie Barse and Steve “Rookie” Rookey of Lisbon, Donna “Dale” Pratt and husband Brian of Virginia, Sandra Hames and Dave of North Carolina, grandchildren, Paul Austin, Hayden Fifield, Olivia Austin, Trent Katura, Hailey Pratt, Amya Katura several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother George Pratt. Vincent was born on July 4, 1963, in Ogdensburg, New York, the son of the late George and Christine Bouleris Pratt. He married Cindy Austin, on May 12, 2000 at their home, Judge Fonda officiating. For a time Vincent owned and operated Pratt Taxi in Ogdensburg. Vincent enjoyed, antique picking, the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping watching movies and television. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. Calling hours will be 2 -4 and 7 – 9 PM , August 25, the funeral service will be August 26, at 2 PM, at the Allen-Denesha Funeral Home, DeKalb Junction, Missionary Ronald Stiles officiating, burial will be in Rensselear Falls Cemetery, Rensselear Falls. She is survived by her daughters, Kristy and her husband Brett Simmons of Morristown, Ashley Putnam and Michael Hitchcock of Auburn, Chelsea Putnam of Auburn, brothers, Roger and his wife Johanna Newcombe of Rensselear Falls, Richard and his wife Jayne Newcombe of New Hampshire., a sister Sue and her husband Chuck Gushea of Rensselear Falls, grandchildren Jeffrey Simmons, Craig Simmons, Brooke Hitchcock, Haileigh Hitchcock, Emilee Holm, a lifetime family friend Mary Downing and her children, Emma Benware and Mason Parson, several nieces and nephews. Vicky was born on November 22, 1956 in Ogdensburg, the daughter of the late Floyd and Edna Race Newcombe. She graduated from Canton Central School in 1975 and attended SUNY Canton. A marriage to Wayne Putnam ended in divorce. She retired from St. Lawrence Lewis County BOCES, as a job coach. Vicky was a member of the Rensselear Falls Volunteer Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary. She dedicated her life to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and was an avid bingo player. Vivian S. Rubado, 86, of DeKalb Junction, died, June 2, 2012, at Canton Potsdam Hospital. A graveside service will be, Tuesday, June 5th, 11:00 at the Hermon Cemetery, Hermon, New York, Pastor Robert Clark officiating. Vivian is survived by her son Holland “Hollie” and wife Julie Rubado, Hermon, sisters, Venita Crary and Vena Hubbard of North Carolina, grandchildren, Anthony and Denise Stedman Rubado, Germany, Eric Lashua, Hermon, great grandson Zech Fuller, Hermon, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son Harold Rubado, a sister Violet Carpenter and a granddaughter Melissa “Missy” Jandreau. She was born on January 4, 1926 in Fine, the daughter of Holland and Hazel Kerr Hubbard. Vivian married John Rubado in1948; he died in December, 1994. She was a self employed live in aide. She was a member of the DeKalb Hermon Senior Citizen Club, and Church Of The Good Shepherd. Vivian loved doing crossword puzzles, knitting, crocheting and going to church. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.
