Gladys E. Thompson, 97, died February 4, 2017. A funeral service will be Wednesday, February 8, 2017, 2:30 PM at the funeral home, her son Terri Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, DeKalb on May 5th,2017, 2 PM. She was born in Ithaca on April 3, 1919, the daughter of Daniel and Bertha (Griggs) Selleck. During her teen years, she worked at a care facility for polio victims. After her graduation from high school, she trained as a nurse at Strong Memorial Hospital. During World War II, she became a U.S. Navy nurse and was stationed at Camp Sampson near Geneva, New York. Following the war, she married W. Maitland Thompson on July 5, 1945. She worked at Ella Gillette’s elderly home, E.J. Noble Hospital in Canton, and Hepburn Hospital in Ogdensburg. She is survived by her children: Roberta Bishop, Richard (Lucy), Daniel (Debra), and Terri (Lucille) Thompson, 18 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Doris Manoly. She was predeceased by her husband, a daughter Ruth Esther in infancy, two sister–Marion Drosendahl and Ruth Manoly. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the charity of one’s choice.
