Laura H. Cushing, 83, formerly of Canton, died on December 12, 2015 at Elderwood at Wheatfield in Niagara Falls. On December 16th at the Fairview Cemetery Chapel, Canton, there will be a calling hour at 12 PM followed by the funeral service at 1 PM, Reverend David Weisserd officiating. She is survived by her son Karl and his wife Leslie Cushing of Ortonville, Michigan, daugthers, Karen Schneebeli of Watertown, New York, Jean and her husband Joseph Ott of Depew, New York a sister, Mary Drexler of Marcellus, New York, grandchildren, Dr. and Mrs. Melissa and her husband Justin Macy, Peter Schneebeli, Heidi and her husband Evan Himes, Lindsay Cushing, Ashley Cushing, Thomas Cushing, great grandchildren, Scott and Maya, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Guy Cushing, and a brother, William Hutchinson. Laura was born on March 3, 1932, in Rochester, New York, the daughter of the William and Celia Deuel Hutchinson. She graduated from Syracuse University in 1966 with a nursing degree. Laura married Gerald Cushing in Rochester in 1955, he predeceased her in 1989. She worked as a public health nurse for the City of Detroit, in New York and Massachusetts. Contributions can be made to the charity of ones choice.

Lee F. Richards, 73, died at his home on November 5, 2015 while surrounded by his loving family. A memorial mass will be on Tuesday, November 10th, 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Church, Canton. He is survived by his wife Deborah “Debbie”, his mother, Lorraine Richards of Norfolk, daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Matthew Denner of Heuvelton, brothers, John and his wife Gerry Richards of Norfolk, Jeffery Richards of Norfolk, Robert and his wife Nancy Richards of Norfolk, grandchildren, Matthew Denner Jr., Gregory Denner, Quinton Denner and Landan Denner, several nieces and nephews. Lee was born on June 28, 1942, in Norfolk, New York, the son of the Vernon and Ione Lorraine Butler Richards. He graduated from Norwood Norfolk Central School and married Deborah Johnson on September 20, 2008 at the Hermon Methodist Church. He worked as a driver for Enterprise in Potsdam, before that he was a manager at the Agway Fertilizer and Feed in Canton and Agway in DeKalb Junction. He was a member of the Sons of AM VETS Post 11 in DeKalb Junction, the Waddington Golf League and the Old Timers Softball League. He enjoyed playing golf, bowling, playing softball, most of all he loved attending all of his grandchildren’s events. Lee was outgoing and always had a joke to tell. Isla Jean McRobbie, 79, died on October 4, 2015, at Canton Potsdam Hospital. She is survived by her daughters, Cathy and her husband Gerald Hendrick of Brockport, New York, Caryn and her husband Michael Chilas of Rochester, Cherie and her husband Daniel Zira of Gouverneur, sons, Michael McRobbie of Hermon, Donald and his wife Cheryl McRobbie of, Waterloo, David McRobbie of DeKalb Junction, a brother, John Nicol of Hammond, 15 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Isla Jean was born on February 5, 1936, in Ogdensburg, New York, the daughter of the late Earl and Gwendolyn Lowery Nicol. She graduated from Hammond Central School in 1954, she married Lowell McRobbie, he predeceased her on December 26, 2009. She was a van attendant for NYSARC and prior to that was a home health aide for St. Lawrence County Public Health for 13 years. She enjoyed reading. She is survived by her husband, John M. Fuller, sons John M. and his wife Carol Fuller of Lutz, Florida, Timothy F. and his wife Kathy Fuller of Pyrites, Paul D. Fuller of Lisbon, a daughter Joy I. and her husband Richard Prince of San Antonio, Texas, a sisters, Beatrice Charland of Malone, Pearl and her husband John Woodin of Poughkeepsie, Jeanne Zemko of Fort Myers, Florida, 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Violet Perrault, Gilda Streeter, Yvonne Harrington, Marie Derosia and Margaret Gregory. Almeda was born on on August 4, 1932 in Churabusco, New York, the daughter of the late Francis and Viola Spoor Derosia. She graduated from Henry Abbott Technical School in Danbury, Connecticut as a licensed practical nurse. She married John M. Fuller, on August 10, 1950 in Ellenburg Corners, New York. Almeda was a licensed practical nurse in New Milford, Connecticut until her retirement in 1993 and was a member of St. Henry’s Church, DeKalb Junction. Bette M. Simmons, 88, died on August 24, 2015, at Maplewood Campus, Canton. She is survived by her daughters, Judy McEathron of Lisbon, Peggy Whiteford of Rochester, Dale Simmons and her husband Kevin Emler of Rochester, Gina and her husband David Nourse of Cortland, adopted son, Ross Kostin of Rensselaer Falls, a sister, Helen and her husband Don Houck of Canastota, a brother in law, Nelson Austin of Hermon, grandchildren, Lisa and her husband Don Wright, Jennie and her husband Will Harper, Michelle and her husband Matt Kraft, John Nourse, Bill and his wife Leesha Emler, great grandchildren, Zachary Wright, Calleigh Harper, Haley Kraft, Benjamin Kraft, Jacob Emler, Madison Emler, Ryan Emler, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Jerry, brothers, Stanley and his wife Alice Childs, Merlin and his wife Jean Childs, sisters, Minnie and her husband Al Pike, Laura Austin, a granddaughter Cheryl Simmons, and a great granddaughter, Morgan Kraft. Bette was born on May 1, 1927 in Kendrew, New York, the daughter of the late Ralph and Beatrice Stone Childs. She attended the country school in Kendrew and graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1944. She married Hudson Simmons, October 10, 1945, at the Methodist Parsonage in Rensselaer Falls, he predeceased her on April 3, 2004. She was nurse’s aide at Kinney Nursing Home in Gouverneur for 15 years and prior to that she was a cleaning lady at the Gillette Nursing Home in DeKalb Junction. Bette was a member of the Kendrew Methodist Church and the Kendrew Grange Ladies Aid. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and making quilts. She made over 400 quilts during her lifetime for family and friends. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many other children who called her grandma and thought of her as if she was their grandmother. She is survived by her daughters, Kristy and her husband Brett Simmons of Morristown, Ashley Putnam and Michael Hitchcock of Auburn, Chelsea Putnam of Auburn, brothers, Roger and his wife Johanna Newcombe of Rensselear Falls, Richard and his wife Jayne Newcombe of New Hampshire., a sister Sue and her husband Chuck Gushea of Rensselear Falls, grandchildren Jeffrey Simmons, Craig Simmons, Brooke Hitchcock, Haileigh Hitchcock, Emilee Holm, a lifetime family friend Mary Downing and her children, Emma Benware and Mason Parson, several nieces and nephews. Vicky was born on November 22, 1956 in Ogdensburg, the daughter of the late Floyd and Edna Race Newcombe. She graduated from Canton Central School in 1975 and attended SUNY Canton. A marriage to Wayne Putnam ended in divorce. She retired from St. Lawrence Lewis County BOCES, as a job coach. Vicky was a member of the Rensselear Falls Volunteer Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary. She dedicated her life to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and was an avid bingo player. Dorothy M. Anderson, 85, of DeKalb Junction, died on July 29, 2015 at Maplewood Campus, Canton. There will be no services. She is survived by her daughter Debra and her husband Leonard Osborn of DeKalb Junction, granddaughters Shelby Dudley, Shiron White, and Sheena Harris, great grandchildren, Tyler Harris, Emma Dudley, Isaiah White, Marcus White and Jacob White all of DeKalb Junction , several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by siblings, Leonard Miller, Jerry Miller, Rudolph Miller, Frank Miller, Fred Miller, Gilbert Miller, Geneva Gadway, Loretta Giroux, Leona Boulrice, Elizabeth Gervais, and Flossie Miller. Dorothy was born on October 23, 1929 in Mooers Forks, New York, the daughter of Gilbert and Genevieve Peete Miller. She married Frederick C. Ero in 1960, he died in 1967, she then married Walter R. Anderson in 1972, and he died in 1988. She worked at Delagar in Lake Champlain until her retirement. Dorothy was a past parishioner at St. Ann’s Church in Mooers Forks. She loved cats, traveling and making beaded necklaces. Contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Betty R. Woods, 83, of Gouverneur, died on July 24, 2015 at Hospice of Jefferson County in Watertown. She is survived by her husband Arthur J. “Woody” Woods, sons Scott and his wife Reen Woods of Gouverneur, Craig and his wife Ranae Woods of Alexandria, Virginia, daughters, Candace and her husband Craig Summers of Tucson, Arizona, Lori and her husband Chris Watson of Bradley, Maine, a brother Curtis and his wife Trudy Snyder of Rochester, New York, 8 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. Betty was born on September 7, 1931 in Ogdensburg, the daughter of Ernest “Pete” and Ada Murphy Snyder. She graduated from DeKalb High School in 1948 and the Ogdensburg Business School in 1950. Betty married Arthur on August 11, 1950. She retired from Corning Glass, Canton after working from 1979-1987. Prior to that she worked at St. Joe Zinc Co. (1974 -1978), Gouverneur E. J. Noble Hospital (1970 -1974), and Acme Markets (1955 -1970). Betty enjoyed playing cards, bowling and golfing. She loved spending time with her children and their families. She was extremely fortunate to have a great group of friends her entire life. Contributions can be made to the Gouverneur Hospital.

Gary L. Queor, 66, of Canton, died on May 31, 2015, at the home of his sister. There will be no services. He is survived by a brother, Glenn David and his wife Carol Queor of Liverpool, sisters, Judy Ann and her husband Darrell of Central Square, Lisa Marie and her husband Dan Snyder of Cicero, Donna and her husband Lawrence Spicer of Canton, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Kenneth Ralph Queor and Frank Emerald Queor. Gary was born on September 9, 1948 in Barre, Vermont, the son of Emerald Frank and Ruth Arlene Dodds Queor. He was a machinist in New Jersey and a member of a rod and gun club. He enjoyed fishing and reading. Contributions can be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.

Reginald Chilton, 76, of DeKalb Junction, died on April 26, 2015 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital. Calling hours will be Thursday, April 30th, 6 – 9 PM, at the funeral home, the DeKalb Junction Volunteer Fire department will have a service at 7 PM. The funeral service will be Friday, May 1, 11:30 am at the DeKalb Junction United Methodist Church, Bob LaClair and Pastor Martha Helmer officiating. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth “Sophie”, his sons, Bryan J. Chilton of Chicago, Eric D. and his wife Jennifer Chilton of DeKalb Junction, a daughter, Lori E. Chilton of DeKalb Junction, grandchildren, Richard Harrison Chilton, Hillary Grace Chilton and Henry John Chilton, a brother in law John Denn, Minot, North Dakota, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, James Robert Chilton and Frederick Russell Chilton, and a sister, Rebecca Ruth Denn. Reginald was born on January 20, 1939 in Hermon, the son James Virgil and Ruth Hill Chilton. He married Elizabeth Hamilton on June 24, 1961 at the Old DeKalb United Methodist Church. Reggie owned and operated Chilton’s Sunoco in Canton from 1963 – 1995 when he retired. He was a member of the DeKalb Junction Volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years, he held the chief’s position and served on the Fire Commissioners Board and was a 40+ year member of the Rainbow Rod and Gun Club. He loved hunting, fishing, playing cards, watching sporting events on tv, especially the Yankees, Giants, and SU and being at camp on the Oswegatchie. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the DeKalb Junction Volunteer Fire Department or the charity of one’s choice.
