Richard-Rickett.gifRichard A. Rickett, 81, of Hermon, died April 15, 2011, at his home. Allen-Denesha Funeral Home, DeKalb Junction, is in care of arrangements. Calling hours will be Tuesday, April 19, 2011, 2 – 4 and 7- 9 p.m., the funeral service will be Wednesday, April 20, 2011, 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home, Reverend William Hart officiating, burial will be in Hermon Cemetery.

Richard is survived by a son, John (Donna) LaTray, Canton, Bonnie (Willy) Walton, DeKalb Junction, Nina Plaisted (fiancé Michael Polowchena), Hermon; eight grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Howard and Douglas Rickett; sisters, Ruth Woods, Doris Pearson, Audrey Klock and Stella Leeson.

He was born March 26, 1930 in Fowler, the child of George F. and Nina G. Fuller Rickett. He married Evelyn Fayette on January 8, 1952 in the Town of Pitcarin, she died September 20, 1996. He was a warehouse manager for Farley Equipment in Gouverneur.

He loved to mow his lawn, tinker with things, watch classic movies, read Louie Lamoure books and had a lot of collectibles. Contributions can be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley or the Hermon Volunteer Rescue Squad.

mavis-james-1.gifMavis James, 78, formerly of Hermon, died March 28, 2011, at the home of her son. The Allen-Denesha Funeral Home, DeKalb Junction, is in care of arrangements. Calling hours will be Wednesday, March 30, 2011, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be Thursday, March 31, 2011, 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with Justin James Prayer Worship Leader officiating. Burial will follow in Hermon Cemetery.

Mavis is survived by sons, Donald (Marianne) James, Hamilton, OH, Douglas (Amy) Johnson, Alexandria, KY, and Thomas (Tracey) James, Pyrites; a daughter, Valerie (Charles) Rink, Cincinnati, OH; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mavis was one of twelve Johnson children.

She was born March 3, 1933 in Colton, the child of John and Arvilla McDonald Johnson. She married Boyden James, April 19, 1958 at the Zion Episcopal Church in Colton, Reverend George Kaufus officiating; he predeceased her on February, 19, 1984. She was a dietician at Drake Hospital in Cincinnati, OH, until her retirement.

She loved fishing, playing cards, visiting around the kitchen table. She always said “If you have a lending hand, lend it.”

Contributions can be made to the St. Jude’s Children Hospital.

Phillip-Gray.gifPhillip Gray, 57, of DeKalb Junction, died March 10, 2011, at his home. Allen-Denesha Funeral Home, DeKalb Junction, is in charge of arrangements. There will be a celebration of his life, Saturday, March 19, 2011, from 2 – 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Emilo D’Argentino, speaker, will conduct the service at 4 p.m.Phillip is survived by his wife, Roxanne M.; his mother, MaryAnne Frisco; brothers Robert and Andy Gray; sister Julie Crotty; brother Chuck Tracy; loving companion Sam; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Leland Gray, and brother, Tim Gray.

He was born October 15, 1953 in Gouverneur, the child of Leland and MaryAnne Elsey Gray.

He married Roxanne Aldrich, January 21, 1984 in Hermon. Phillip was a project site representative at SUNY Canton. He also owned and operated Gray’s Taekwondo in DeKalb Junction for several years. He attained his master certification in Korean Taekwondo under Grand Master Sam Kim.

He loved hiking with Chuck and Sam, fishing, gardening, woodworking and being outdoors.

He was a true family man, a great teacher and a good and honest person.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the rescue squad or charity of one’s choice.

Lana-Stransky.gifLana Stransky, 21 months, of Hermon, died March 7, 2011, at Fletcher Allen Medical Center, Allen-Denesha Funeral Home, DeKalb Junction, in care of arrangements. Calling hours will be at the funeral home, Saturday, March 12, 1 – 4 p.m., the funeral service will be Sunday, March 13, 1:00 PM at the Hermon United Methodist Church, with Reverend William Hart officiating, a remembrance will follow at the Hermon Fire Hall.

Lana is survived her parents John and Kathryn Ferrick Stransky, Hermon; a sister, Katharina Frank; grandmothers Judith Stransky, DeKalb Junction and Margaret Reed, Hermon; and great grandmothers, Pat Merria, Ogdensburg, Margaret Grant, Hermon, and Marion Reed, Hermon.

She was predeceased by a sister, Alina Stransky.

She was born May 26, 2009 in Ogdensburg. She loved her sister, watching Disney TV and hated taking baths.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Hermon DeKalb Central School for a scholarship in memory of Lana Stransky.
