Frank B. Aldous Jr.

Frank B. Aldous Jr., 87 of Hermon, died peacefully on March 24, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family and golden grand dogs.

Frank was born on September 14,1936 in Pierrepont, to the late Frank and Flora Barkley Aldous Sr. He attended Hermon and then graduated from Knox Memorial School in 1953 and went into the Air Force achieving several technical certifications. While in the service he was stationed in Germany where he met and married Elfriede Schwitalla celebrating 61 years of marriage. Frank worked at Corning Glass as an electrician till his retirement in 1999. While at Corning he enjoyed the friendships he built and was committed to responding anytime a call came in where his knowledge and ability to fix anything was called upon. After his retirement he was a school bus driver for First Student in Lisbon where he would joke with the students, always looking to enjoy a laugh. More importantly he enjoyed sharing memories talking about the sporting events from his daughter’s sports teams. There was never an inning or period / play he forgot and shared those stories lovingly. Thank you to all who listened. In later years Frank enjoyed hockey games and finding concession stand hot dogs.

Frank is survived by his loving wife Elfriede, daughters, Carmen and her husband Randy Camp of Canton, Heidi and her husband Gary Fick of Maryland, Brigitte and her husband Dean Anninos of Virginia, sisters, Vivian Wilson of Elbridge, Jeanette Jones, grandchildren Darren Camp and his fiance’ Ashley Anderson of Canton, Brittany Camp and her fiance’ Nick Vega of Florida, Andrew Fick of Maryland and Jay Anninos of Virginia.

Services will be private.

Harold William (BILL) Scott Jr.

Harold W. (Bill) Scott Jr., age 79, of DeKalb Junction, NY, passed away at Canton Potsdam Hospital on March 9, 2024. On April 13, 2024, at 2:30 PM there will be a memorial service at the New Hope Community Church at 33 Grant St., Potsdam, New York.

Harold W. (Bill) Scott Jr. was born in Syracuse, NY to Rev. Harold W. and Clarabelle (Gerry Biesek) Scott on March 15, 1944. He is predeceased by his parents, Harold and Gerry, and grandson, Jared Maurer. He is survived by his loving wife JoAnne Scott; nine children, Candace Cowser, Bethany (Dan) Skarupa, Amanda Puleo, Rachel Hope, Rebekah (Michael) Maurer, Christa Scott, Aaron (Monica) Scott, Renee (Tony) Colon, and Jessie (Jevon) Reardon; and sister Candy (Dale) Kasson. He also leaves behind 19 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and numerous friends.

Bill graduated from Skaneateles Central School in 1961. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for over 30 years. He attended Elim Bible Institute, for theological studies. He attended SUNY Canton where he received his A.A.S, Computer Information Systems degree in 1995. He then began working as a St. Lawrence County dispatcher until he retired in 2015. He served for over 60 years as volunteer fireman and was a Chaplain at Dekalb Junction Volunteer Fire Department and served as a level 3 EMT with the Hermon rescue squad.

Bill will be remembered for his strong convictions, opinions, and most importantly his faith. He was very involved in the community, pastoring several church congregations.

Libby A. Kinch, 55 of Gouverneur, died on February 29, 2024, at E. J. Noble Hospital, Gouverneur. There will be a Celebration of Life on March 16, 2024 12 – 4 PM at the VFW in Gouverneur. Libby is survived by her husband, Howard Kinch, son, Matthew Kinch of Hermon, mother, Shirley Briggs, brothers, Richard and his wife Ellie Briggs of Crary Mills, Randy Briggs of Canton, in-laws Pam and Nelson Hutt of Theresa, sister in laws Billie Jo Collins of Theresa, Angel Hutt of Theresa, Nickcole Collins of Watertown, 14 nieces and nephews, including Nelson Melendez, Skai Melendez, Esmeralda Melendez and Tavia Justice. She was predeceased by her daughter, Chantel Kinch, father, Richard Briggs father-in-law, Jeffery D. Kinch. She was born on June 22, 1968 in Buffalo, to Richard and Shirley Fiefield Briggs. She graduated from Canton Central School in 1986. She married Howard Kinch at their home in Gouverneur on April 7, 2001. Libby was a babysitter and prior to that she worked at McCarthy’s in Canton doing various jobs. She loved spending time with her family and friends, horseback riding, traveling, collecting butterflies and dragonflies. It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the death of Randy Steven Newcombe born on January 2, 1963 and taken from us too soon on February 6, 2024. Randy was the proud Father of his beautiful and loving Daughter Ninah Newcombe, Step-Father to Megan (Ryan), Morgan, Brad, Brandon, Dustin, Jordan; Step-Grandfather to Sofie, Max and Luc; beloved Son of Howard and Marion Newcombe; amazing Brother to Scott (Sheila) Newcombe, Cindy Lottie, Rhonda (Ray) Boyles, Amy (Steve) Costa, Tammy (David) Wentzel, Steven (Tobi) Newcombe, Kellie (Mark) Marcellus and loving Uncle and Great Uncle to many nieces and nephews who looked up to him for guidance, love and mostly ‘fun’; exhibited by a 2023 camping trip with Randy, Steve and the nephews to memorialize many summer camping trips when the boys were young. Randy lit up a room with his infectious smile and outgoing personality and could always be heard whistling. His sarcasm and witty comments were a sign of love and affection for all lucky enough to be on the receiving end of it. Randy worked for many years at Gouverneur Hospital as a Physical Therapist Assistant and loved the camaraderie he shared with his co-workers. He lived his life to the absolute fullest and took his last breath knowing that he was truly loved. Randy’s hard fought battle would not have been as peaceful without the selfless acts of Rhonda and Eric. We are beyond grateful for the love and care you gave to Randy and Ninah. Our family would like to thank Dave, Paul, Monk and Bruce for their long standing friendship and support. Following his wishes, Randy’s ashes will be released into the forests of camp, his favorite environment, where he could be found every weekend during hunting season wandering the woods (sometimes even without a loaded gun) trying to bag the Big Buck. Although our hearts are broken they are filled with so many memories of the loving. kind and wonderful man that we were lucky enough to have had in our lives. We will love you
forever. Randy did not want us to mourn but only to have a party to celebrate his life. A Celebration of Life will be April 6, 2024, 3 – 7 PM , at the DeKalb Junction Volunteer Fire Department.

Joan Anson, 85 of Richville, died on February 3, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family. There will be no services. Joan is survived by her sons, Francis and his wife Donna Anson of DeKalb Junction, Brian Anson of Richville, Charles Anson of Romulus, NY, daughters, Karen Blackmer of Buffalo, Christine Schieb of Henrietta, Darlene Benz of Rochester, Elizabeth and her husband Ali Naqvi of Katy, TX, brothers, Richard Sheffield of FL, Ronald Sheffield of Andover, a sister Marie Chaffee of GA, 15 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Melody Donohue, siblings, Dorothy, Virginia, Geraldine, John, Robert, Barbara, Charles, Patricia, George, Lawrence, Donald, Carol, Marie and Gerald. She was born on March 4,1938 in Brockport, to the late, George and Marie Donahue Sheffield. She graduated from high school in Brockport, NY. She married Lee Donohue which ended in divorce, she then married Francis E. Anson in Rochester in 1960, he died on November 14, 1993. Joan was a collator at a book binding company in Rochester, later in her life she was a housekeeper for many years. She was a member of the DeKalb Hermon Senior Citizens Club, AARP, where she was active in fighting for senior’s benefits, and the Red Hat Society. She loved to play bingo, dance, play cards, make puzzles, travel, sing and music.

Gordon W. Poole, 89, of DeKalb Junction, died on January 14, 2024, at the Auburn Rehab and Nursing Center. There will be a funeral service on May 24, 2024 at the DeKalb Junction United Methodist Church at 9:00 am, burial will follow in Union Cemetery, DeKalb Junction. Gordon is survived by his daughters, Deborah Bright of Winthrop, ME, Jennifer and her husband Robert Williams of Belgrade, ME, a brother, Wayne Huntress of Philadelphia, NY, grandchildren, Billy Poole, Nick Poole, Carolyn Poole, 3 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Lynn Poole, and a sister, Joyce Griffin. He was born on April 3, 1934, in Gouverneur, the son of the late, Lynn and Perciebelle Underwood Poole. He graduated from DeKalb Junction High School in 1951. Gordon married Pearl Hutt in 1956, she died on March 3, 1998, he married Elma Wilson on January 5, 2002, she died on January 19, 2010, he married Daun Martin on November 20, 2011, she died on September 12, 2021. Gordon was an ironworker for Local 496 Ironworkers in Clinton, ME, which included working at Alcoa and Civies Steel locally. He owned and operated Circle P Corp in Maine which was a small farm supply store. He and his son Lynn then operated the store together including, small engine repair, and agricultural fencing. Gordon was a member of the DeKalb Junction United Methodist Church, was a founding member of BSA Troop 144 Hermon-DeKalb, was also the Charter Organization Representative and treasurer, faithfully attending the monthly meetings, was a member of the Wildwood Masonic Lodge 477 in Edwards and was a past master. He enjoyed horses, snowmobiling, motorcycling, welding, and spending time at camp. Kenneth C. Corscadden, 75, of Richville, peacefully passed to Heaven to be with his son Kasey, on December 30, 2023. There will be calling hours on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, 1-3 and 5 -7 PM at the funeral home. The funeral service will be January 3, 2024, 10:00 am at the funeral home, Pastor David Hart officiating, burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. Ken is survived by his loving wife, Lauren “Laurie”, his daughters, Kristine and her husband Matthew Shippee of Richville, Kerry and her husband James St. Onge of Newville, PA, Katie and her husband William “Billy” Smith of DeKalb Junction, Kimberly and her husband Chris Buckner of Kansas City, Kansas, Kylie Corscadden of Richville, Kaitlin Corscadden and her partner Mark Tripp of Richville, 18 grandchildren, Kelsi, Samantha, Skylar, Ryan, Kodi, Makenna, Tyler, Karli, Cooper, Laura, Allison, Ashtyn, Harlow, Elizabeth, Kendal, Kinlee, Kaydence and Ryken, 2 great grandchildren, Grayson and Laneigh, his brother, Michael and Raeanne “Rae” Corscadden of RI, a sister-in-law, Maggie Corscadden of RI, several nieces and nephews, and lifetime friends. He was predeceased by his son Kasey Corscadden, brothers, Robert, William, Nelson “Jack”, Keith, and Albert “Tim” Corscadden. He was born on August 24, 1948, in Fall River, MA, the son of the late, Albert and Dorothy Robertson Corscadden. He graduated from the Bristol Agricultural High School in 1967. He went into the Army in 1968, to Vietnam, because he loved his country. Ken married Lauren Durfee on June 20, 1975, in Westport, MA. Ken felt farming was his calling, Corscadden Family Farm was his sanctuary. He always said, “If you take care of the farm the farm will take care of you”. It was an honor for him to take care of God’s creatures and His land. In his later years he was always overseeing the farm he loved, which included taking his grandchildren with him to inspect the fields. His greatest love was his family. He had a special and individual bond with each and every one of his children and grandchildren. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, was the life of the party, many times being the last to leave. You became a friend for life whether you were a round table friend at the diner, a business associate, community member or an employee. He helped hundreds of people while expecting nothing in return. In fact, he was proud that the last two weeks before his death, he had worked one hundred hours combining corn for a friend. His family said he was small but mighty and larger than life. Weldon C. Noble Sr., 90, of DeKalb Junction, died on December 29, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family. There will be no services. He will be laid to rest in East DeKalb Cemetery. Weldon is survived by his wife Roxanna, his sons, Weldon and his wife Caroline Noble Jr. of Morristown, Wendell Noble and his partner Amy of Minnesota, Marshall and his wife Sally Noble of Canton, Michael and his wife Kelly Noble of New Hampshire, Dennis Noble of Hermon, his daughter, Dianna Noble of Michigan, his brothers, Neil Noble, and Merle and his wife Dancy Noble of DeKalb, his sister Janice Sibbits of Canton, 9 grandchildren, 13, great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Morley Noble, Harold Noble, Keith Noble, Glenn Noble, sisters, Viola Noble, Lucy Murdie and Loreen Noble. He was born on April 15,1933, in Canton, the son of the late, Loys Jessie Culbertson Noble. He married Noreen Watson which ended in divorce. He married Roxanna Goodale on June 25,1994 at their home in DeKalb with Lay Minister Floyd Powell officiating. Weldon was a farmer and worked a Don Cook’s farm in Hermon. He enjoyed puttering around his home, going to camp and love spending time with his children and grandchildren. Landon J. Hall, 76, of Russell, died on November 19, 2023, at Champlain Valley Physician’s Hospital. There will be calling hours on Friday, November 24, from 4-6 PM. There will be a graveside service with military honors at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Richville, Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 11:00 am. Landon is survived by his wife Lois, his son Keith Hall of Rochester, his daughter, Amanda and her husband Jake Rowley of Russell, his brother, Martin Hall and his life partner, Joyce Jones of Florida, his sister, Joan and her husband John Metz of Florida, grandchildren, Bella Mary Lou Hall, Grace Aubrey Hall, Madelyn Elle Rowley, Cole Everett Rowley, a brother-in-law and sister- in- law, Ernie and Cheryl Stuhldreher, nieces, Risa Oliver, Stefani Brown, Vicky Martin, and Tammy Brosowsky. He was born on February 12, 1947, in Gouverneur, the son of the late, Donald and Keitha Jeffers Hall. In 1965 he graduated from Hermon DeKalb Central School, and continued his education at Alfred State University, graduating in 1967 with an Associate Degree in data processing. Following college, he was in the United States Army in Vietnam where he received an army commendation medal for heroism in the Republic of Vietnam on May 9, 1969. He married Lois Stuhldreher on May 13, 1972 in Lindenhurst, New York. Landon was employed for many years as a computer programmer at IBM in Rochester, coming home one day announcing he was retiring and became an over the road truck driver, which was a career he had always wanted to do. He last worked for Morey Enterprises in Brushton, N.Y. He was a member of the Gamma Theta Gamma fraternity, and the St. Vincent DePaul Church in Churchville. He was very involved in his church, working Bingo and the church carnival. Landon loved camping, Nascar, going to many of the tracks around the country and happy hour on the deck watching the river, with the love of his life Lois. But above all else, his family was the great love of all. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your local volunteer rescue squad.

Carole M. Castor, 71, of Heuvelton, died on October 20, 2023, at SUNY Upstate Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, October 28, 2023, 1 – 4 PM at the Grace Point Wesleyan Church in Heuvelton. Carole is survived by her husband, Lyle L., daughters, Christina and her husband Brian Kunath of West Chazy, Amanda and her husband, Jeremey King of Marcellus, her sisters, Susan and her husband Curtis Bell of Macomb, Joan Sevey of Rochester, grandchildren, Ryan Kunath and Crystal Grady, Cassee Kunath and Jason LaDue Jr, Brianna Kunath, Bailey Kunath, Lance Kunath, Abigail King, great grandchildren, Diamond Miller, Paxton Kunath and Quincey Kunath, several nieces and nephews. Carole was born on April 4, 1952 the daughter of the late, George and Cora Riley Bogardus in Gouverneur. In 1970 she graduated from Hermon DeKalb Central School. Carole continued her education at Canton ATC, graduating in 1973 with an Associate’s Degree in business administration. She married Lyle Castor on her birthday, April 4, 1975 at the DePeyster Methodist Church. Carole was a housekeeper and laundress at the United Helpers Nursing Home from 1987 until her retirement in 2020. She was a member of the Grace Point Wesleyan Church in Heuvelton. Carole loved to read, do puzzles, going to garage sales, and scrap booking. She loved owls and her cats which she called fur babies. But above all else, her family was her greatest love of all.
