Lillian M. Erwin, 86, of Fayetteville, died on September 17, 2019, at Crouse Irving Hospital.  There are no services. Lillian is survived by her husband, Lyle L. Erwin, a son Lyle Erwin, North Carolina, a daughter Lisa Erwin, Fayetteville, her sisters, Marion Barr, Rochester, Virginia Tuttle, North Chili, NY, 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her brothers, Clifford Shatraw, Glenn Cooper, and Anda Cooper. Lillian was born on September 10, 1933, in Gouverneur, NY, the daughter of the late Anda and Geraldine Nellie Shatraw Cooper.  She married Lyle Erwin on March 8, 1952 at the United Methodist Church in Gouverneur.  She and Lyle owned and operated RCT Trucking in Syracuse.  Lillian was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.  She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, visiting, traveling, and spending time with her loved ones. Laurel Van Ornum, 60, of Ogdensburg, died on August 18, 2019. Calling hours will be Thursday, August 29, 1- 2 PM, at the funeral home, a graveside service  to follow at Wayside Cemetery, Richville, Certified Lay Servant Frank Carter officiating.  Laurel is survived by her mother, Joyce Donnelly of Tupper Lake, her brother, Floyd F Donnelly Jr. of Massena, sisters, Eliza and her husband Dale Fasset of Michigan, Lisa and her husband William Longshore of Morley, April and her husband Wayne Storm of Massena, Gertrude and her husband Richard Kentile of Tupper Lake, Shannon Donnelly of Canton, several nieces, nephews, as well as several loving friends and caregivers at United Helpers.  She was predeceased by her father, Lloyd Van Ornum Sr. and her brother Lloyd Van Ornum Jr. Laurel was born on May 14, 1959, in the Town of Canton, the daughter of Lloyd and Joyce Barden Van Ornum. She resided at the Centennial Manor IRA. She attended United Helpers Day Habilitation Program. Laurel was a kind, loving person.  Enjoyed puzzles, cards, magazines, adventure, traveling, coffee with her friends, barbeques, loved animals and children.  Music of almost all kinds.  She was hilarious and loved to play pranks.  Loved having girl’s night and spa days. She was the best hype person around and could make you feel great just for walking into a room. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or The Wounded Warriors Project.

Lula Mae Cook, 86, of Hermon, died on July 26, 2019, at her home.  Calling hours will be Saturday, August 3rd, 10 am- 12 PM, at the funeral home, a funeral mass at St. Mary’s Church, Canton, 12:30 PM, burial to follow at St. Henry’s Cemetery, DeKalb Junction.  Lula Mae is survived by her husband, Donald Cook, her  sons, Steven and his wife, Kitty Cook of Massena, Roy Cook of Hermon, daughters, Donna and her husband John Collins of  Russell, Deborah and her husband Vincent Warren of Malone, Vicki and her husband William Riley of  Boston Lake,  a brother, Eugene and his wife Barbara Coller of DeKalb,  a sister, Geraldine Woods of DeKalb, a sister in law, Joyce Coller, Potsdam, 12 grandchildren, 15, great grandchild, several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by a son Dennis Cook, a daughter, Christine Cook, brothers, Lucius, James and John Coller. Lula Mae was born on April 23, 1933, in the Town of DeKalb, the daughter of the late, Floyd L. and Wava Caswell Coller.   She married Donald Cook on October 23, 1950 at St. Henry’s Church, Father Parisian officiating.  She devoted her life to her children and the family farm. Lula was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church, past parishioner of St. Henry’s Church (where she was in charge of the Easter Breakfast), and she was a past 4H Leader.  She enjoyed crocheting, making afghans, and knitting mittens. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley or St. Mary’s Church, Canton.

Linda G. LaRock, 76, of Potsdam, died on January 26, 2017. There will be no services, Linda was a generous donation to science. She is survived by her sons, Richard and his wife Carie LaRock of Potsdam, Bruce LaRock of Potsdam, Robert and his wife Jennifer LaRock of Gouverneur, Allen LaRock of Gouverneur, daughters, Debbie LaRock of Gouverneur and Madonna Fadden of Gouverneur, sisters, Elsie Gibson of Pennsylvania and Karen and her husband Tom McGregor of Potsdam, 15 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Linda was born on January 14, 1941 in Bangor, the daughter of the late Roy and Mildred Willette Gibson. On May 12, 1959, she married Richard Abraham LaRock, he died on July 2, 1998. She worked at Canton Potsdam Hospital in housekeeping for 30 years, retiring in 2006. Linda loved traveling, reading, knitting and camping in Colton. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.

She is survived by her sons, Edward and his wife Dawn Slayko of DeKalb, Paul and his wife Sandy Slayko of Hermon, Kevin and his wife Angelica Baker of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Eric and his wife Jessica Baker of Cisco, Texas, daughters, Karen Slayko of Syracuse, Carol and her husband Glenn Beck of Ranger, Texas, sisters, Rachel Miner and Esther Cleveland both of Hermon, 16 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sons, Keith Baker, Douglas Slayko and a grandson, Ryan Slayko. Lila was born on May 13, 1937 in Pierrepont, the daughter of the late Edward and Mayfred Stone Fifield. She was a nurses’ aide at Western Manor in Ranger, Texas and an aide for many home health care agencies. She was a member of the Pilgrim Holiness Church in Russell. Lila enjoyed playing cards, baking and flower gardening. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Diabetes Foundation.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine, a son, Aaron Donaldson of Massena, daughters, Leeann Donaldson at home, Susie Thompson of Massena, Amanda Robinson of Massena, Nichole and her husband Antron Faulk of Massena, brothers, Leslie and his wife Linda Donaldson of DeKalb Junction, Larry and Diane Donaldson of Canton, a sister, Leola Fredette of Canton, 17 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter Ellie Lemieux, grandchildren, Ryan Lemieux, and Christian Donaldson. Lee was born on December 31, 1948 in the Town of Canton, the son of the late Leslie and Helen Blair Donaldson. He married Catherine Barney in Massena on December 14, 2002. Marriages to Barbara Blandin and Gail Burcume ended in divorce. Lee was a custodian and van driver for Massena Independent Living Center until 2003. He loved spending time with his family, fishing, and watching western movies. Contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Laura H. Cushing, 83, formerly of Canton, died on December 12, 2015 at Elderwood at Wheatfield in Niagara Falls. On December 16th at the Fairview Cemetery Chapel, Canton, there will be a calling hour at 12 PM followed by the funeral service at 1 PM, Reverend David Weisserd officiating. She is survived by her son Karl and his wife Leslie Cushing of Ortonville, Michigan, daugthers, Karen Schneebeli of  Watertown, New York,  Jean and her husband Joseph Ott of Depew, New York a sister, Mary Drexler of Marcellus, New York,  grandchildren, Dr. and Mrs. Melissa and her husband Justin Macy, Peter Schneebeli, Heidi and her husband Evan Himes, Lindsay Cushing, Ashley Cushing, Thomas Cushing, great grandchildren, Scott and Maya, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Guy Cushing, and a brother, William Hutchinson. Laura was born on March 3, 1932, in Rochester, New York, the daughter of the William and Celia Deuel Hutchinson. She graduated from Syracuse University in 1966 with a nursing degree. Laura married Gerald Cushing in Rochester in 1955, he predeceased her in 1989. She worked as a public health nurse for the City of Detroit, in New York and Massachusetts. Contributions can be made to the charity of ones choice.

Lee F. Richards, 73, died at his home on November 5, 2015 while surrounded by his loving family.  A memorial mass will be on Tuesday, November 10th, 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Church, Canton. He is survived by his wife Deborah “Debbie”, his mother, Lorraine Richards of Norfolk, daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Matthew Denner of Heuvelton, brothers, John and his wife Gerry Richards of Norfolk, Jeffery Richards of Norfolk, Robert and his wife Nancy Richards of Norfolk, grandchildren, Matthew Denner Jr., Gregory Denner, Quinton Denner and Landan Denner, several nieces and nephews. Lee was born on June 28, 1942, in Norfolk, New York, the son of the Vernon and Ione Lorraine Butler Richards. He graduated from Norwood Norfolk Central School and married Deborah Johnson on September 20, 2008 at the Hermon Methodist Church. He worked as a driver for Enterprise in Potsdam, before that he was a manager at the Agway Fertilizer and Feed in Canton and Agway in DeKalb Junction. He was a member of the Sons of AM VETS Post 11 in DeKalb Junction, the Waddington Golf League and the Old Timers Softball League. He enjoyed playing golf, bowling, playing softball, most of all he loved attending all of his grandchildren’s events. Lee was outgoing and always had a joke to tell. She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Lucille and Teri Thompson of Chataguay, brothers, Gaylord Paro Jr. of Star Lake, Albert and his wife Lynn Paro of Mustang, Oklahoma, Charles and his wife, Alicia Paro of Canasota, sisters, Connie Cole of Sodus, Pauline Riddell of DeGrasse, Beatrice Peck of Heuvelton, who was also her caregiver, Sharron Steele of Star Lake, grandchildren, Bethany and her husband Jeremy Lynn, Aaron Thompson, Mark Thompson, Joel Thompson, Jonathan and his wife, Katie Thompson, Seth Thompson, Nathaniel and his wife Kirsten Thompson, Peter Thompson, Philip Thompson, Matthew Thompson, Benjamin Thompson, 10 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Grace Holland, brothers, James Paro, Kenneth Paro and a sister, Thelma Denney. Leona was born on July 6, 1935 in the Town of Russell, the daughter of Gaylord and Jane Eells Paro. She attended Knox Memorial Central School. She married Harlow Holland on November 17, 1954 at the Gouverneur Methodist Church Parsonage by the Reverend Frank Brown, he predeceased her on July 1, 2009. Leona and her husband owned and operated a dairy farm in DeKalb Junction, she also previously worked at Aiello’s and McCadam’s. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hermon and a past member of the Rebekha Lodge. Leona loved making cakes, crocheting, doing ceramics, reading and making jigsaw puzzles.
