Richard Theron “Dick” Fisher 01/10/2025

 

Richard Theron “Dick” Fisher

Richard Theron Fisher,86, of Ogdensburg, died at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home January 10, 2025.  There will be a funeral mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Ogdensburg on Friday, May 16, 2025 at 10:00 am, burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, with military honors.  Richard is survived by his children, Kathleen and her husband Henry Bouchard of Ogdensburg, Richard and his wife Debbie Fisher of Massena, SueEllen and her husband Mark McAdam of Heuvelton, Steven and his wife Christine Fisher of Ogdensburg, grandchildren Lauren McAdam, Andrew and his wife Gena Fisher, Morgan McAdam, Jared Fisher, Julia Fisher, great grandchildren, Sophie Fisher, Dalton Bjork, sisters, Susan Catlin of Vermont, Marlene Dufort of Albany, a very special friend Joanne McCabe, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by siblings, Stewart “Tootie” Fisher, Austin Fisher, Robert Fisher, John (Jack) Fisher, James Fisher, Jerry Fisher, and Lawrence Fisher, Jeanine Thibert, Lynn LaFave, Henrietta Fisher, and a granddaughter, Lindsey Rose McAdam. Richard was born on May 15, 1938 in Ogdensburg, the son of the late Harry and Lillian Deuval Fisher. He attended Ogdensburg Schools and earned his GED. He served his country in the Air Force. He married Martha Bell on March 22, 1958 at St, Mary’s Cathedral she died on October 27, 1984.  Richard was a heavy construction foreman for many construction companies in the area, working on many of the large projects that shaped the north country. He retired from Laborer’s International Union of North America Local 1822 (322). After his retirement he was a grounds keeper for the Ogdensburg Recreation Department.  He was a 3rd Degree Knight as a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #258. Ogdensburg. He was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Cathedral.  Dick enjoyed boating, fishing on the St. Lawrence and hunting in the Adirondacks.  Dick was always surrounded by his loving family.  He was happiest when was helping his son at Fish R Chips in Ogdensburg. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Joseph’s Foundation, 950 Linden St., Ogdensburg, New York 13669.

Roderick Eric Turnbull

Roderick Eric Turnbull, 72, of Trout Lake, Hermon, died on December 2, 2024.  There will be calling hours on Thursday, December 5th from 3 – 6 PM, at the funeral home, a graveside service will be in the spring. Burial will be in East DeKalb Cemetery.  Eric is survived by his wife, Christine, sons, Benjamin E. and his wife Amanda “Mandy” Turnbull of Oswego, Matthew A. and his wife Miranda Turnbull of Canton, Nathan W. and his wife Anna Turnbull of Mexico, his sisters, Helen Glinski of Fort Pierce, Florida, Constance LaClair of Granbury, Texas, Cynthia Sherman of Lillington, North Carolina, grandchildren, Mackenzie, Conway, Evelyn, William and Lillian Turnbull, several nieces and nephews. Eric was born on September 19, 1952 in Canton, to the late Arthur and Lillian Mackenzie Turnbull. He graduated from Hermon DeKalb Central School in 1970 and received his associates degree as an electrical engineering tech from Canton ATC in 1972.  He married Christine White on August 15, 1981 at the Grace Episcopal Church in Canton, Reverend Denny officiating.  Roderick owned and operated the DeKalb Skate Land in the 1970’s while working as an electrician for Nel Corp in the north country until his retirement in 2017. Eric was a member of the Buck Horn Hunting Club in Harrisville.  He and Chris moved to their home on Trout Lake in 1978. His home on Trout Lake was his passion and was where family and friends came to hold events and be with him. He was an outdoors man and especially enjoyed, hunting, fishing, camping and he enjoyed his trips to Canada. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Hermon or Edwards Rescue Squads. 

Randy S. Newcombe 02/06/2024

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the death of Randy Steven Newcombe born on January 2, 1963 and taken from us too soon on February 6, 2024. Randy was the proud Father of his beautiful and loving Daughter Ninah Newcombe, Step-Father to Megan (Ryan), Morgan, Brad, Brandon, Dustin, Jordan; Step-Grandfather to Sofie, Max and Luc; beloved Son of Howard and Marion Newcombe; amazing Brother to Scott (Sheila) Newcombe, Cindy Lottie, Rhonda (Ray) Boyles, Amy (Steve) Costa, Tammy (David) Wentzel, Steven (Tobi) Newcombe, Kellie (Mark) Marcellus and loving Uncle and Great Uncle to many nieces and nephews who looked up to him for guidance, love and mostly ‘fun’; exhibited by a 2023 camping trip with Randy, Steve and the nephews to memorialize many summer camping trips when the boys were young. Randy lit up a room with his infectious smile and outgoing personality and could always be heard whistling. His sarcasm and witty comments were a sign of love and affection for all lucky enough to be on the receiving end of it. Randy worked for many years at Gouverneur Hospital as a Physical Therapist Assistant and loved the camaraderie he shared with his co-workers. He lived his life to the absolute fullest and took his last breath knowing that he was truly loved. Randy’s hard fought battle would not have been as peaceful without the selfless acts of Rhonda and Eric. We are beyond grateful for the love and care you gave to Randy and Ninah. Our family would like to thank Dave, Paul, Monk and Bruce for their long standing friendship and support. Following his wishes, Randy’s ashes will be released into the forests of camp, his favorite environment, where he could be found every weekend during hunting season wandering the woods (sometimes even without a loaded gun) trying to bag the Big Buck. Although our hearts are broken they are filled with so many memories of the loving. kind and wonderful man that we were lucky enough to have had in our lives. We will love you
forever. Randy did not want us to mourn but only to have a party to celebrate his life.  A Celebration of Life will be April 6, 2024, 3 – 7 PM , at the DeKalb Junction Volunteer Fire Department.

Robert B. Miller, 88, of DeKalb Junction, died on April 28, 2023, at his home. There will be calling hours, Friday, May 5, 12 – 2 PM, followed by a graveside service, 2:30 PM at the Hermon Cemetery, Pastor Martha Helmer officiating. Robert is survived by his son, Robert “ Mike” and his wife Sandra Miller of Front Royal, VA, daughters, Kelly and her husband Ralph Johnson of Madrid, Karen Perry of Ruckersville, VA, Shirley Mitchell and her husband Douglas Spotswood of Orange, VA, brothers, Edward and his wife Mary Miller of Palmyra, Everette and his wife Marlene Miller of OK, Ronald and Eloise Miller of Newark, a sister, Gloria Zehr of Gouverneur, a daughter in-law Sandra Miller of Norwood, Howard Kinch, a friend and family, step children, Judy Phillips, John Caringi, 14  grandchildren, several great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sons, Benjamin Dale Miller, Randy J. Miller, a daughter, Maryanne Miller, brothers, John Miller, Lawrence Miller, Donald Miller, sisters, Onalee Matoon and Joyce Moore, a step son Mike Caringi, a grandson, Joseph Miller, three great grandchildren. He was born on April 4, 1935, in Fowler, the son of the late Bertie and Velva Vanatter Miller. He graduated from the Hermon High School in 1954. Marriages to Shirley Miner Fiacco and Helen Caringi ended in divorce.  He married Barbara Hance on December 27, 2014 at the DeKalb Senior Housing Community Room, she predeceased him in 2019. Robert owned the Tupper Lake Bakery, where he was also the baker.  Prior to that he was a general contractor for the Village of Potsdam. Robert was a very active volunteer, helping to improve people’s lives. He was on the St. Lawrence County Council, N. Y. Statewide Senior Action Council (past president, 4 years, and vice president 3 years) a member of the DeKalb Hermon Senior Citizen Club, Edwards Senior Citizen Club (past president), the Massena Senior Citizen Club and a delegate to the Russell Senior Citizen Club.  He was a member of the DeGrasse Methodist Church (he served as chairman, assistant chairman and was on the church board), the DeGrasse, Clare, South Russell Volunteer Fire Department.  He loved selling ads and tickets, going to the North Country Senior Rama, playing cards (Pedro), watching television, playing horseshoes, checkers chess and bowling, He was a NY Yankees and NY Giants fan. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the NY Statewide Senior Action Council, 275 State Street, Albany, NY, 12210.

Ricky Lin Meilleur, 68, of Russell, New York, passed away unexpectedly on November 11th, 2022.Born on January 22nd, 1954 in Gouverneur to Eleanor Morrissey Meilleur and Lemond L. Meilleur. Rick had one sibling, a sister, Sharon Meilleur who predeceased him. Rick grew up in Malone, where he attended Franklin Academy School. He entered the Army at 18 and served during the Vietnam era. He served two years active duty and continued his service in the Army reserves for ten years upon his return. Rick worked at J& L Steel, and then the Town of Russell Highway Department for nine and half years.  After twenty plus years working for various construction companies, Rick retired from the operating engineers, Local 545! He married Ellen L. Scott of Russell, New York, on August 31, 1974. Married for 48 years, together they raised three children; Richard L. Meilleur (Katherine) of Russell, Gregory J. Meilleur (Jennifer) of Gouverneur and Emily L. Royce (Codey) of North Carolina.  A self-taught musician, Rick enjoyed playing his guitar and singing for the residents at many local nursing homes. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, riding his Side X Side and cutting wood!  Rick is survived by his loving wife and children. A niece, Melissa Catton and her husband Brad and their four children. Many grandchildren and great grandchildren.  As per his wishes, there will be no calling hours or services.  A Celebration of Life will be held on November 20, 2022 at the home of Rick and Ellen from 12 – 4 PM at 16 Mill Street, Russell. Russell E. Snyder, 88, of Canton, died on September 24, 2022. Services are private and burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Canton. Russell is survived by his wife Sally, sons, David Storozow of South Carolina, James Storozow of Lafargeville, a daughter Mary “Colleen” and her husband Donald “Duck” Brown of DeKalb Junction, grandchildren, Dan and his wife Kyleigh Storozow, Amy Storozow, Jill and her husband Kirk Davis, Linda Shaw, and 8 great grandchildren.  Russell was born on March 23, 1934 in Johnson City, New York. He graduated from Vestal Central School. He served his country in the Army during the Korean War.  Russell married Sally Streevy on December 27, 1967 in Endicott, New York.  He was a heavy equipment operator, he owned and operated Payne and Snyder Construction in Broome, NY. He enjoyed puttering around the house, hunting and fishing. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Disabled American Veterans.

Ruby J. Carpenter, 90, of DeKalb Junction, died on July 31, 2022, at Massena Memorial Hospital.  There will be a graveside service on Friday, August 5th, 2:00 PM, at Hermon Cemetery, Hermon, NY, Pastor Martha Helmer officiating.  Ruby is survived by her son, Donald and his wife Wanda Carpenter of DeKalb Junction, a brother, Clarence Morrow of DeKalb, sisters, Maybelle Rowland of DeKalb, Mary and her husband Donald Fuller of Hermon, granddaughters, Kelly Carpenter of Hermon, Kimberly Carpenter of Canton, great grandchildren, Zarina, Kailey and Marianna, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Richard Morrow and a sister Shelby Harmer.  Ruby was born on August 3, 1931, in DeKalb Junction, the daughter of the late Charles and June Stevens Morrow.  She graduated from DeKalb High School in 1949. Ruby married Donald Carpenter Sr. on July 4,1949 he died on October 23, 2011. Ruby was an aide at Moongate Nursing Home in Canton and prior to that at Barlow’s Nursing Home in Canton. She loved spending time with her family and was an avid Yankees Fan.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the DeKalb Junction Volunteer Fire Department or the Hermon Volunteer Fire Department.

Randolph C. Youngs 05/23/2022

Randolph C. “Bud, R. Carl, or Carl” Youngs

Randolph Carl Youngs, 89 of River Road, Richville, NY, passed away at his home, after a long illness. He was best known to his friends and family as Bud and to the farming community as R. Carl or just Carl.

He was born on July 5th, 1932 in Rossie, NY, the son of the late Randolph Churchill and Beulah Hilton Reynolds Youngs. A previous marriage to Memory LaBarge ended in divorce. He married Lila Rumbaugh on November 10th, 1979 at Clare Porters home in Gouverneur. Their children were the attendants.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years Lila Rumbaugh Youngs, daughters, Julie and her husband Rick Harra of Chaumont, Sandra Jenkins and her partner Thad Rosemyer of Massena, sons, Andy Youngs and his partner Michael Chin of Annadale VA, Russell and his wife Gloria Gard Youngs of Mishawaka IN, grandchildren Mark and his wife Jennifer Shippee of Richville, Matt and his wife Kaitlyn Harra of Philadelphia, Richard Harra, Nathan Harra, both of Chaumont, Megan and her wife Amy Mashaw of Gouverneur, David and his wife Angellee Jenkins of Fine, Robert Jenkins and life partner Michaela Shippee of Antwerp, James Jenkins and partner Lexi Klock of Fowler, Ross Youngs of Mishawaka, IN, great grand children Jacob, Mitchell, Lillanna, Maylea, Weston, Saige, Bryer, Annalee, and Harvey, four sisters Alice and her husband Douglas Weldon of Gouverneur, Joan Kinney of Saratoga Springs, Lona and her husband Leo Rastley of Rossie, Wanda and her husband John Bailey of Oriskany, brothers Lynn and his wife Norma Youngs of Rossie, NY, Wiley and his wife Rosemary Youngs of Akron, OH, a brother-in-law Ivan and his wife Dorthy Rumbaugh of Richmand MA, also numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brother and sister in laws, Clifford and Keitha Youngs, Bruce and Donna Youngs, Wallace and Carole Reynolds, Hugh and Ardis Reynolds, a brother-in-law Ivan Kinney, and an infant grandson Gregory C. Youngs.

Randolph was a member of the Richville United Church, the Richville Historical Association, Macomb and Rossie Historical Associations. As a dairy farmer he also served on the Board of Gouverneur COOP, as well as Marble City COOP. He obtained his certification as an artificial inseminator. He loved his life as a farmer, his family, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He loved traveling by train, plane, or automobile, from ocean to ocean and his favorite western states. He was always an observer of farm country where ever he went and seemed to meet a fellow farmer whatever his traveling mode. Family visits, reunions, and his annual July birthday parties were the joy of his life.

At Randolph’s request there will be no funeral services. However, his grandchildren will host the annual July party on July second for family to celebrate his life and to be present at the burial at Rossie River Side Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Richville Free Library, Richville Volunteer Fire Department, or the United Church of Richville.

Rosemary Hamilton Kyer, 95 of DeKalb Junction, died on April 6, 2022, at her daughter, Christine Trathen’s home. There will be calling hours on Monday, April 11, 11:30 am – 1:30 PM at the funeral home, a funeral service will follow at the Hermon United Methodist Church at 2 PM, burial will be in the Hermon Cemetery. Contributions in lieu of flowers can be made to the American Heart Fund, Alzheimer Association, Brain and Aneurysm Foundation, Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley, the Hermon or South Edwards United Methodist Churches.

Ronald C. Stevens., 63, of Hermon, died, February 5, 2022 at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center. There will calling hours at the funeral home, February 19, 2022, 12 -2 PM, masks are required and all COVID protocols will be in effect. Ronald is survived by his wife, Margaret, daughters, Linda Stevens and her significant other Matthew Martin of Hermon, Tina and her husband Steven House of Russell, his brothers, Dale Stevens of Lisbon, Eugene Stevens of Heuvelton, a sister, Dorothy Stevens of Heuvelton, 5 grandchildren, Logan Stevens, Joey Payne, Dartagnan House, Aiden Chase, and Tyler Bush, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Jenny Bush, and a granddaughter, Serena Stevens.  Ron was born November 21, 1958, in Ogdensburg to the late, Charles and Pauline Howes Stevens. He graduated from Heuvelton Central School in 1978.  He married Margaret Hogg in July 1981 in Florida.  Ron worked as a fuel deliveryman for Philly Fuels in Philadelphia, for many years. He loved spending time with his family, riding motorcycles, and driving muscle cars.  He played Santa at day care centers or for anyone who wanted to take a picture with him. Contributions in lieu of flowers can be made to charity of one’s choice.
